Our magnificent Three Monkeys this month

A tiny, but appreciative, audience for tonight's Three Monkeys .. some of the very best singer-songwriters around. Shame you missed it!

Thanks to Steve Lowis for originally coming up with this event, which has become one of the most popular for musicians to play in Southampton, as they have an appreciative audience who are sitting and actually listening to their music, for a change!  And thanks to one of our volunteers, Paul Kiddle, for co-hosting and helping to organise this event.

Steve says "An evening which showcases three accomplished singer/songwriters and gives them the opportunity to discuss their songs as they play them one at a time "in a round".

I had the opportunity to take part in an "In The Round" session in a little venue called Zoey Cafe in Ventura. There were three local artists sat in a semi circle facing the audience. We each took it in turns to play a song and had the time to explain why we had wrote them.

It went "round" like this about five or six times ie each artist played 5 or 6 songs in total. I was so inspired by this night and thought there was a gap in the market in Southampton for this sort of event. Jani and Bik at the Art House have kindly agreed to open their doors on the 3rd Wednesday of every month to make this happen.

We are looking to book Singer/Songwriters to join in this unique night in Southampton. So please contact me or the Art House if you would like to get involved."

Last night we had:

The Real Raj - TheRealRaj is a singer songwriter who has been playing live for the last couple of years in pubs ,clubs, intimate festivals and fund raising charity gigs around the South Coast of the UK. Depending on when you catch him you will find him playing guitar, harmonica, tambourine, mandolin, kazoo, banjo or ukulele - not necessarily in order or all at the same time but sometimes very close!  www.myspace.com/therealraj

Sarah Saville - "One of the joys of working in the industry is that there is always a chance you may come across something or someone unique. Sarah Saville definitely falls into this category. Her songs are excellent - the kind that worm their way into a little corner of your head, and stay there, popping back every now and then when you need a little stimulation, a little soothing, or even just something to hum sitting at the traffic lights. But its her voice - warm but powerful, with a deep resonant range that most singers would give their right arm for thats what really grabs you by the heart lungs head and soul, and once shes got you thats it!!" ..Iain Dunnet, Dunnet Wright Music.

Harriet Smith - Harriet Smith is a lovely, soulful find hailing from Southampton, UK. She delivers the hauntingly beautiful melodies in the same bittersweet vain as Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, and Missy Higgins. This will be her first 3 monkeys appearance.

They were all magnificent.
